Why Most Learning Fails (And What A Gym Spotter Teaches Us About AI)

Why does most learning fail?

Most people blame the book. Or the teacher. Or they blame themselves.

Here's the real reason. It's something called cognitive load.

That just means how hard your brain has to work to take in something new, before you can even use it.

Different ways of learning make your brain work in very different amounts. And that's why some ways work, and most don't.

Think of it like a weight you're trying to lift.

A book or a course hands you the heaviest weight it's got, then walks away. No spotter. Just you and the bar. Most people can't lift it alone. So they set it down and never pick it back up. Which is why most books just sit on a shelves.

Then AI chat came along and looked like the fix.

But picture the spotter lifting the whole weight for you instead. You watch a rep happen. It looks like progress. But your muscles never worked. No load, no growth, no strength. Doesn't matter how many "reps" you do that way.

That's the part nobody sees coming with AI chat.

It feels like progress. But nothing got built.

The real fix sits in the middle. Some call it "desirable difficulty." Others call it optimal friction. It just means you still do the lifting, but someone's there to catch the weight if it gets too heavy.

Picture what this looks like for real experts and the people they help.

A survival teacher's student doesn't need someone to build the shelter for them. They need someone standing next to them while they build it, so a mistake gets caught before it costs them.

Someone grieving the loss of a child doesn't need a list of grief stages read off a chart. They need someone who's been through it, standing with them in the moments no chart can prepare you for.

Here's the part most experts are missing right now.

You can be that spotter without standing in the room.

Take the years of judgment you've built helping real people, and build it straight into a guided AI tool. Not a chatbot that gives the same answer to everyone. A tool trained on how you actually teach people.. that can catch mistakes, and can even know when someone's about to quit.

The AI handles the parts that don't need your years of experience. Things like being there any time, staying patient, doing the same thing over and over.

Your judgment handles the part that does. Knowing exactly when to push harder, and when to catch the weight.

PS: Curious what this would actually look like for you and your business.

Reply CURIOUS and I'll show you what it'd be like if I built this for you.
