Business owners need employees so that they can do stuff they don't want to do.
That may be because they want to be owners and not operators.
That may be because they want to focus on strategy and not tactics.
Whatever the reason, they *need* employees.
I didn't *get* this until I started my own thing.
Retention matters.
This can get weird though.
There's a sort of coddling that can take place.
Working at software companies before I went out on my own it got especially weird.
Breaking away from this scene is like taking the red pill in The Matrix.
Everything hurts a little more at first as you get used to the real world.
But the feeling of standing on your own feet, serving customers, not managers is worth it.
There's no going back!
