Business owners need employees so that they can do stuff they don't want to do.

​That may be because they want to be owners and not operators.
​
​That may be because they want to focus on strategy and not tactics.
​
Whatever the reason, they *need* employees.

I didn't *get* this until I started my own thing.

Retention matters.

This can get weird though.

There's a sort of coddling that can take place.

​Working at software companies before I went out on my own it got especially weird.
​
Breaking away from this scene is like taking the red pill in The Matrix. 
​
​Everything hurts a little more at first as you get used to the real world.
​
​But the feeling of standing on your own feet, serving customers, not managers is worth it.

There's no going back!
