We’re in a new era as knowledge workers.

For a long time, I took pride in execution.

How fast I could type.
How precisely I could place a cursor in a code file.
How cleanly I could select exactly what I wanted and nothing I didn’t.
How clever I could be with find-and-replace across a project.

Those were real skills.
I was good at them.

And none of them matter the way they used to.

Rather than mourn that, I’ve chosen to elevate.

Because as useful as those skills felt, they were also baggage.
They tied me to the how.
They made me the worker instead of the owner of the work.

Execution wasn’t freeing me.
It was slowing me down.

Now the “how” is largely handled.
AI changes everything.

And that changes the job.

The value I create today doesn’t live in code files or funnel pages.
It lives in specifications.
In decisions.
In taste.

It shows up in how deeply I understand a business domain.
In how clearly I can define a problem.
In how well I can articulate what should exist before anything gets built.

That was always the hard part anyway.

Designing the right thing.
Caring enough to get it right.
Knowing what matters and what doesn’t.

Letting go of execution feels like a loss of skill.
But it's really a gain in leverage.

And this is the part that matters for you.

If you still measure your value by how well you execute..
how fast you move..
how much you personally touch..

You may be anchoring yourself to the wrong layer of the work.

There isn't that much fuel left in that tank.

The leverage now comes from judgment.
From clarity.
From vision.

From being the person who knows what should be built.. and why..
so well that the “how” becomes secondary.
