Six months ago, it was historic flooding.
Today, it’s wildfires.
Thousands of acres, within an hour's drive
Close enough to smell.
Close enough for my wife and daughter to feel it.

So today...

I took half the day off “work” to prep.

• Cleared out the leaves.
• Soaked the lawn.
• Got more gear from the hardware store
• Water, fuel, Starlink… ready.

And I didn’t feel guilty about it.
Because this is the work too.

Years ago, I would’ve panicked.
Felt stuck.
Felt like everything was out of my control.

Now?

I’m calm.
I’ve built something that lets me be here.
Present. Capable. Ready.

Everyone thinks they’re chasing freedom or money.
But that’s just the surface.

The Hero’s Two Journeys says this:
You don’t just get the goal.
You become the kind of person who can handle it.

And when the fire shows up...
literally or otherwise...
you’ll be glad you did.
