How to Reset When Life Feels Heavy (4 Practices That Work)

Some days are heavy.

I had a day like that yesterday.

Today feels even heavier, but for different reasons.

Sometimes, pushing forward is the move.
You’re close, you’re in the zone, you just need to finish.

But other days.. when the weight of everything catches up.. you need a different strategy.

If today feels heavy for you too, here are some practices you can try:

Grounding. When I'm on my game, I do regular check-ins during the day. Rate how I feel in a few categories. Then breathe, move, or journal a bit to reset so I can show up more present and valuable.

Free-form writing. I grab a notebook and write. Messy. No spell check. No backspace. Something about the sloppiness makes it feel real.

Eyes-closed typing. Since I’ve touch-typed forever, sometimes I just close my eyes and let my thoughts spill. Faster than handwriting, and it gets me to the truth quicker.

Body scans. Just sit there, mentally scan down your body and notice where the tension is, and let it go.

These are all tools I lean on when life feels heavier than normal.

And sure, sometimes the right move is to power through.

But other times?

You have to pause, grieve, breathe, and let yourself process.

Keeping it bottled in doesn't help. 

Letting it out lets you navigate more authentically.

That’s how you find the energy to keep going in a way that’s responsible and sustainable.
